Navigating Life In An Anxious World
The world is getting stranger by the minute, isn’t it? I think it’s safe to say that we are witnessing some kind of transformation. Transformation of society and civilization. Transformation of ourselves. And you know what? It depends only on us whether this negative experience will lead to a positive outcome or not. Furthermore, we can use this pretty extraordinary experience for personal growth or not. You may not realize that but how you thrive at this moment is completely up to you.
Given the chaos of the moment, it is a real challenge to focus mental and physical energy on what you can control. And let me tell you something, there are plenty of things you can control and one of them is your anxiety level.
Of course, I am not saying that you should not be worried or scared because honestly, I don’t think it would be possible. We’re all stressed, anxious and worried to some extent and it’s completely normal given our current circumstances. But there are some things you can do on a daily basis to manage your stress and focus on what you can control. And here they are:
Control Your Mindset
The first step in managing anxiety and stress is to recognize that you are in control of your mindset. Without this awareness, you will most likely fuel your fearful ego and indulge in negative thinking. We all know how easy it is obsess over worst-case scenarios especially if the situation we found ourselves in is pretty tough.
The coronavirus pandemic is one of those highly complex situations that are dangerous and beyond your control. However, even if you cannot predict what is going to happen next you can still control how you respond to events in your life. But in order to do it, first, you need to recognize that you are in control of your thoughts. You decide what thought to feed and what to free immediately. You have the power to turn negative thoughts upside down and use less-than-perfect circumstances to your advantage.
If you want to thrive in chaotic and uncertain moments like this, you need to focus on developing a long-lasting positive mindset. Positive thinking and unconditional belief that you can use this crisis to come out stronger will help you to restore mental clarity, look at our current world from many different angles and points of view and make the right decisions about your future.
Control What You Pay Attention To
We live in a rapidly changing world where if you want to respond appropriately to situations in your life you need to be mindful, focused and observant. Otherwise, you might miss what’s truly important.
Not to mention that the current pandemic situation has been and remains extremely stressful which makes responding, or I should probably say coping with reality a little bit harder. But hey, difficult doesn’t mean impossible. It simply means that you have to apply the right strategy and this strategy is called: living in the here and now on your terms. Yes, on your terms. Because you control what you pay attention to. Which means that you can keep watching the news or you can manage your time more efficiently.
The first option will most likely make your anxiety symptoms worse or even cause “headline stress disorder” (yep, it’s a real condition). So let’s avoid that.
The second option is much more encouraging. Because if you choose to utilize your time efficiently instead of obsessively consuming every morsel of information about coronavirus you will be able to maximize your productivity in achieving long-term goals. The choice is yours.
Practice Self-Care
Most people think that practising self-care is limited to skincare, which is not the case. Taking care of your skin is only a small part of the self-care routine. Self-care is about developing healthy and positive habits that will improve the quality of your life. So we’re talking here about those activities that not only boost your health and wellbeing but also make you feel good about yourself. Of course, activities such as taking a bubble bath or getting a face mask are also included but it’s not just that. A healthy, positive and powerful self-care routine should address 8 areas of your life which are:
- Physical
- Emotional
- Spiritual
- Social
- Financial
- Professional
- Personal
- Environmental
That’s why I highly recommend you to create a powerful, relaxing and enjoyable self-care routine. And to help you with that I’ve created self-care worksheets that you can grab for FREE!

Accept That Change Is Constant
We love the idea of leading a quiet, stable and predictable life where everything is under control. That’s why we fall into the trap to plan everything out to the nth degree so easily. And then when things don’t turn out as we expected we get frustrated.
But the truth is, you never know what is going to happen next until it surprises you. So maybe, it’s time to accept that?
Life in its nature is incredibly unpredictable and nothing’s ever 100%. Well, ok almost nothing. Because according to Benjamin Franklin, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Well, you can’t argue with that.
Life is a mix of chaos and order, stability and craziness, balance and imbalance, success and failure and everything in between. And this global health pandemic that we are all facing right now ONLY confirms this fact.
Life is a crazy journey, a roller coaster drive. Furthermore, it had always been so, and would always be so. One minute, you’re on top, the next you’re at the bottom. The purpose of the ride, however, remains the same, that is to challenge you, bring out the best in you, inspire you to do great things, reignite your creative spark, motivate you to find your calling so that you can create a meaningful life.
But to be able to make the most of this crazy journey you need to be open to change, a temporary loss of stability, new challenges and new opportunities so that you can make the most of them when they present themselves.
So instead of pouring the loss of (imaginary) stability, think about how you can use these less-than-perfect circumstances to your advantage. What can you learn from this?
Act Despite Fear
I’ve been pretty positive for the majority of the time since we’ve been in isolating mostly because I am used to spend entire days at home working on my computer. That’s why the prospect of staying at home in self-quarantine wasn’t really all that scary.
However, there was another problem to deal with: fear of unknown. As this problem appeared to grow worse I start feeling paralyzed by uncertainty. And I don’t know one single person that wouldn’t feel the same way.
As human beings, we don’t like to be unsettled. We prefer order than chaos. Furthermore, most of us intrinsically think that order means “good” and chaos means “bad” but the truth is life is a mix of order and chaos we just tend to ignore it. Well, we used to ignore it because with the COVID-19 outbreak now a pandemic, the world became so chaotic and turbulent that we cannot even hope to predict what is going to happen next.
The future is unknown. But it does not mean that we should just give in to fear, surrender to our fate whatever that would be and spend this time in standby waiting for events. Because that would be a terrible waste of life. A much better solution is to create structure from this chaos.
The structure is necessary for creating a sense of stability and balance in your life and pretending otherwise is a waste of time. That’s why you should focus on adjusting your daily routine and adapting to changing circumstances. Don’t wait for the future. Be proactive. Create your future.
Rember that you don’t need to have everything figured out to take action and create an amazing outcome. Trust the process. Accept the fear of the unknown and focus on what you can control so that you will have the motivation to take that next step toward success.
Accept Your Feelings
We tend to label emotions as “good” or “bad” based on how they affect us. And of course, we try to get rid immediately of difficult and negatives ones because we just don’t want to feel bad. Isn’t that obvious? Well, maybe it is. But the problem with looking at emotions as “good” or “bad” is that it creates inner conflict. In other words, we’re in a constant state of internal battle trying to suppress difficult emotions or replace them (on force) with positive ones. And in consequence, instead of feeling better, we feel much worse.
Truth is there is no such thing as “good” or “bad” emotions. Every emotion is important and valid. Furthermore, emotions play an essential role in our lives and without them, we wouldn’t be able to make decisions, avoid danger, experience happiness or create an authentic human connection with others.
Emotions we experience, tell us a lot about the situation we’re in and they won’t go away until we acknowledge, accept and embrace their real nature. They won’t magically disappear only because we don’t like them. But they will stop hunting you if you let yourself experience them without trying to suppress, reject or deny them.
So instead of resiting of what your body is trying to tell you, delve deep into this experience, accept your emotions and work through them to find the reason why they happen. Listen to your gut. Focus on what your body is trying to tell you and use it to navigate your life wisely. Use your emotions, good and bad to your advantage. Use your emotions as your guidance system. Delve deep into your experience.
Expect Nothing, Appreciate Everything
Remember the time when we could travel without limits, meet our friends without worrying about “socialize safely” or watching TV news without risking a major panic attack? Well, that was before coronavirus was declared a pandemic.
With the COVID-19 outbreak now pandemic, the world became extremely chaotic, uncertain and almost unreal. All of a sudden everything changed. The entire world has dramatically changed. Our daily habits, customs and attitudes have changed. We had a different kind of Easter and summer vacation. Most of us try to cope with a strange mix of feelings that we never experienced before.
If this pandemic teaches us anything it is simply this – stop taking things for granted and be grateful for what I have. That seems more obvious than ever now that appreciating all things and enjoying every moment is crucial for living a more meaningful life. Practising gratitude will not only help you to reduce anxiety but also it will increase your life satisfaction. So stop taking things for granted and notice how lucky you are to be in the here and now.
Take Care Of Your Financial Health
Well, I don’t know about you but I knew that there would be severe economic repercussions of COVID-19 already in March when they put Italy under total lockdown. Most people were too preoccupied with trying to make sense of this health crisis that they didn’t think about how it would affect the global economy. Now pretty much everyone is talking about that.
Whether we like it or not, money affects the most important things in life. Money can’t buy happiness but they can buy financial freedom and open door to opportunities you didn’t have before. For instance, if you’re struggling financially you cannot afford the highest-ranked University even if you’ve got accepted, you’re not able to travel abroad and see the most beautiful sights for yourself, you cannot improve your healthy eating habits by adding more organic food products into your diet and you cannot afford major medical insurance.
All of these “can’t” causes a lot of unnecessary stress, anxiety and worry. Money should not be your GOAL but if used wisely it becomes a powerful TOOL to reach your objectives and make your dreams come true. That’s why it is so important to take care of financial health and start building your future wealth right now. And to help you with that I’ve created an eBook titled “A Simple plan for your financial independence” and financial planner kit that you can purchase here. They are on SALE now!
